Plus-sized corset with black rose brocade cover and built-in garters. The busk is 17" on this one, and it's underbust.

I make completely custom corsets, from pattern drafting to final design details. If you would like more information on my custom corsets, please visit my Etsy shop --> [link]

This must be for a person who is very long in the body! I think I've ever made a corset of any style with a 17" busk. Love the fabric, it looks similar to some I used to make a frock coat...

What's really strange is that another corset I'm working on is an overbust with an 18" busk, and the first corset I ever made on commission (photos long lost) was for a woman who was amazingly tall. I'm 5'6", and the top of my head didn't quite reach her shoulder when she was barefoot and I was wearing stomp boots. At the other extreme, that little blue waist cincher I made not too long ago has only a 6" busk, and a full underbust for her would only be an 8" busk. I find it fascinating and wonderful, the amazing range of variations within the human race.

The fabric is pretty, but a pain to deal with. It was horribly prone to unsightly pulling at the seams, so I used heat-and-bond to fuse it to the outer layer of coutil before sewing. That worked, but between the stiffness of the fusing product, and how big the corset was, sewing it all together was tricky. I'm using the white version of this fabric for another corset (not the 18" busk), and after these two are done I don't think I ever want to use it again.

Thanks! They're all custom, so each is a reflection of the body it was made for. :D

It must be a different fabric to the one I used which behaved perfectly. The weave and pattern look almost identical. Good luck with it.

I think the longest bones I ever had to put in a corset were about 17" and the centre front of that corset was longer so maybe an 18" or even 19" busk would have been useful there but it was a bridal corset and my bride didn't want a busk at all. It did mean I got to play dress up with the bride on the morning of the wedding which was great fun. We partied the night before - not too late ;) and were up reasonabley early to have baths and for her to have her hair and make up done. It was a lovely wedding and I felt honoured to be invited to the whole affair.

It probably was different. I picked up this fabric because it looked almost identical to a thumbnail she showed me, which might have been the fabric you used before.

That is so sweet! Thanks for sharing your story.

Sometimes it's difficult to get the same fabric twice, even from the same store. I wish you better luck in the future ;)

and you're welcome...
