ooooo! that was very helpful! could you maybe make a color tutorial one day? though this is probably good enough that I can figure out color tones from the greyscale tutorial. Anyhow thanks for making this its very very helpful! ^_^ I am just getting ready to start a large scale version of "spooky's heaven" with spookowl's new look and my better grasp on anatomy and composition ^_^

I am hoping to do up a similar tutorial for colored pencil, but I'm not sure when. The principles are exactly the same, though. It's just more complicated because of the choices of colors, and taking into account the way the colors change when layered over each other. I always layer when I color, though, starting with a base tone and working into the deeper shadows.

thats kinda the same thing I do. chosing the colors is usually no trouble for me since, as you have probably seen from my college drawings, invented color is one of my favorite tricks. If you look closely in some of my anthro work you will see some of the shadows are unexpected colors. Usually I sneek thin black, green or indigo lines in a space for shadows and I'll use the eraser plus possible a light yellow or white for highlights. mark making is another thing I am very keen on lol

Yes, I had noticed that you used colors like that. It really looks neat when it's done well, and you have a good eye for it. :D
