The space crunch is actually a little worse, because I have crash space in someone else's home rather than having a place of my own (if you're curious of the circumstances send me a message). Since I'm physically not able to sew much anymore, I have very little sewing stuff with me. It's pretty much just the bare essentials for the four corset commissions I committed to over the summer who are willing to be patient.
Instead I brought all my art supplies, and can paint in their back yard under a canopy shelter even in winter. I have six or seven paintings started at the moment, including the style/color test for a huge portrait commission. Since I work in oils I must wait 3-10 days between layers on each individual painting, so I need to have a lot going at one time if I'm going to be productive. If I'm productive, I am in contact with a gallery in a hopping wine/tourist area that wants to put them up. I also have a lot more interest in my art online, including a setup on a invite-only print on demand site (I have very little up right now, so I have not advertised it yet).
Since I'm working in the back yard I can only paint during the day. That means if I want to create art in the evening it's drawn media. The drawings are also the kind of thing I can create in a day, so I can post finished work quickly and put them up for sale inexpensive.
I'm very exited to be working on art again, if you couldn't tell.
I'm so sorry to hear that you're having ongoing health and pain issues. It sounds like you're dealing with a lot of difficulties, but also finding ways to make things work for you really well. I'm glad to hear you so happy about your opportunities for drawing and painting again, and of course to see the results.
Hopefully you have plans for a wonderful Thanksgiving this week... I'm leaving tomorrow (Tues) evening to fly back to Colorado to visit my family for 3 days - about as long as I can get away for without a LOT of special arrangements for the studio, so it'll be short and sweet, and I'm really looking forward to the small vacation.
That sound wonderful! Have a great Thanksgiving with your family. I've spent thanksgivings with Diana and her family for the past ten years as it is, so we're just planning out a fantastic feed for the four of us. No travel needed. Diana and I just need to make more progress sorting through our stuff to entirely give Joyce back her livingroom.
Thanksgiving with friends is awesome. I had the holiday with a good friend of mine last year after having taken just too many unplanned short trips and not having the energy to make yet more travel arrangements for what couldn't have fit in as any longer than an overnight trip for Thanksgiving. We had a very non-traditional meal based around individual game hens instead of turkeys - for 4 people it was perfect - and amazing side dishes. My friend who hosted is a great cook!
Anyway your holiday sounds like it will be lovely, and I'm really glad for that.
I hope you've had a lovely Thanksgiving with your family. We had our Thanksgiving dinner at 2pm on Thursday, and finally finished off the last of the turkey last night when it was re-incarnated as turkey enchiladas. I had time to paint on Friday, and also have been spending more time sorting out belongings and cleaning house.
