Oil paint on canvas board, 5"x7" Two sessions No reference
This painting was inspired by the sunset I saw the other night. Lately we have been getting these amazing colored peach and lavender sunsets, and on that particular night a crescent moon was setting just as the colors were at their most vibrant. There were also some silhouettes from where I was watching, so I roughly followed the form of them, replacing horizontal rooftop with tree tops.
I started with blue, pink, and peach in very thin layers, and slowly blended them towards each other, adding small bits of paint as needed to intensify the colors. I didn't use any medium, so I had all the working time I needed to smooth them together. It is one of those techniques you can't do with acrylics because of the dry time and paint texture, and a perfect example of why I love oils.
