Yasha - Diptych by sidneyeileen Yasha - Diptych by sidneyeileen
Oil paint on canvas board
Diptych, 2 5"x7" canvas boards
Three sessions
Reference: photo of Yasha, an Italian greyhound

This is a gift for a friend who moved away. Yasha is a beloved little dog she had for years. To make the painting I am referencing a photo taken when Yasha was just a couple years old. Most of the elements in the painting exist in the photo, but I have re-arranged them to create a more pleasing composition.

For the last layer, I added the tree branch shadows showing through the window, and the plant in the pot on the left. I used black paint with a very high quantity of medium so the black would be translucent, and varied the quantity of pigment to create the darker and lighter areas.

I like your diptych, you have a good job on bass, although I q the passage of light to dark should be a little, just a little softer, but this great, I like the backlight

This is really good, it kind of has me between sentimental and lonely. Just something about the light and placement, but the painting itself is awesome.

Thanks. :aww: When I painted it I definitely felt somewhere between sentimental and lonely. I met Yasha when she was already an elderly dog, when I became friends with her person. That friend had some drastic changes to her life circumstance, and was forced to find Yasha a new home through an Italian Greyhound rescue group. Yasha went to a great new home (with a yard and two other greyhounds), but my friend give up a dear friend who had been with her for thirteen years.

animals have a really sweet way of bringing in moments and stories like that, sounds rough but it also sounds like things came around and gave you some inspiration :).

I just got the second coat of varnish on it tonight, so I'm hoping to put it in the mail this weekend after the varnish cures completely.
