New Family Member

Last Saturday I went to the pet store to buy some kitty litter, and when I saw this guy in one of the adoption cages my heart stopped.



He's very, very thin (especially compared to our butter-ball, Isa), and didn't look like he was feeling well. His markings are gorgeous, and his eyes just caught me. When I held him, he snuggled to me and pushed his face into my chin, purring slightly. I couldn't turn him down. I couldn't walk away, even though I already have two cats, and all the kitties lucky enough to be with that adoption agency are not at risk of euthanasia.

So, I brought him home. He's the same color as creme brulee, so that was considered for a name, but he's so sweet that we decided to name him Oishii instead. For those of you that don't know, Oishii is Japanese for "delicious".

He's very thin, and was so nervous his first night that he would hardly eat or drink anything. He also had ear mites, and it was too late when we got home to get him to the vet, so we bought an over-the-counter ear mite treatment. We administered it to our other two kitties as a preventative, and to Oishii. Later, after I got him to the vet, she recommended "Revolution", a topical flea treatment which also cures ear mites.

Oishii ate very little the first 24 hours we had him, but he's been eating fine since, and is no longer posturing defensively at the other cats when they get close. He's still being a snuggle-bum, and Isa has been snugglier as well since he arrived. He's also very vocal, and is teaching the other cats to meow more. The first day, his vocalizations just confused them. It was adorable.

I took a number of pictures of Oishii last night, and posted the best one. He's much easier to photograph than the other two, who inevitably move when the camera emerges. I may post other photos of him because of that, but they will be deposited in my Scraps, rather than the main gallery.

One of these days, I really ought to take the time to draw my own cats......
